Nero Marquina and Ice White in Banu’s Kitchen
Banu’s kitchen combines Nero Marquina quartz at the island with Ice White quartz on the worktops and splashback. The two materials create a deliberate black-and-white contrast, with the island and waterfall-style dining detail forming the central feature.
Use two surfaces with a clear role
The dark island is visually distinct from the lighter perimeter surfaces. When planning a two-colour kitchen, decide where each material starts and finishes before ordering samples. This project is a reference for assigning one surface to the island and another to the worktops around the room.
Think about the kitchen beyond cooking
Banu’s account describes a space for cooking, eating and spending time together. The island brings these uses into the same area. For your own plan, check the seating position, movement around the island and the dimensions of any dining extension alongside the material choice.
Use this project as a starting point
Bring the photographs or details you like together with your own plan. A similar visual style does not establish the same dimensions, fabrication requirements or price. The quote for your kitchen should identify its own material, scope and finishing details.
Did the renovation of your kitchen go as planned?
“I would say that it has come out the way we have imagined, and that’s very important in any renovation project and especially with the kitchen because my husband and I are looking forward to throwing kitchen parties as we are foodies.”
Why did you choose Stoned Collective for your worktops?
“We wanted an island in the kitchen, and we tried to even go with the waterfall dining as well. We thought the black with the white would go well together. The black has patterns and the white has patterns so we liked it together. But honestly, with Mo, we had a smooth experience, and he had the colours we wanted.”
What is your favourite part of the kitchen?
“I would say island, at least in my case. And to be more clear, this island, along with the dining table here, has a waterfall type of pattern, and I thought this would look good. The best part of the kitchen, at least in my view, is the island because of the view from the top, and it saves space. We are just waiting for the chairs, but overall, it’s just perfect.”
Banu currently lives with her husband and her one-year-old son, and as they both work from home, it was ideal for them to have a kitchen where they can work, cook and eat together. She explains how she loves how each colour is the complete opposite, yet blends in well with her appliances and goes beautifully well together.
Thank you, Banu, for trusting us, and we hope you enjoy your new surfaces for many years.
