Kitchen Worktop Cost UK 2026: Complete Pricing Guide

How much do kitchen worktops actually cost in the UK in 2026? Most online “guides” give you a price-per-square-metre and call it done. Real installations don’t work like that — your final invoice depends on material, size, edge profile, sink cutouts, installation complexity, and where you live.

This is a practical pricing guide written by a UK fabrication team. Every figure below comes from real 2026 installations across our Watford, Northampton and High Wycombe showrooms. No marketing fluff. No vague ranges. Just numbers.

The headline numbers (UK 2026, supplied and fitted)

Dekton£350–£700£2,100–£4,200
Marble (real)£500–£1,000+£3,000–£6,000+

“6m²” is the UK average for a galley or U-shaped kitchen — 4 linear metres of worktop + a 1.2m island top. Larger kitchens scale up roughly linearly.

What’s actually in the price

Material slab cost (50–60% of total)

The slab is the biggest single line item. Quartz brands sit in distinct price tiers:

  • Value tier: Aspen Ice, Highland White, Cement Lux Quartz — £150–£250/m² slab cost
  • Mid tier: Caesarstone Cloudburst, Silestone Eternal Calacatta — £250–£400/m²
  • Premium tier: Calacatta Gold, Statuario, bookmatched veined — £400–£600/m²
  • Zero silica premium: Caesarstone Mineral — £350–£550/m²

Granite slab cost depends on rarity. Common varieties (Star Galaxy, Black Pearl) are £100–£200/m². Premium varieties (Blue Bahia, Azul Macaubas) can hit £400–£600/m².

Dekton slab cost is more uniform — £200–£350/m² across the range.

Templating and fabrication (15–20%)

This covers the digital measurement of your kitchen (laser templating, not paper), CAD layout, cutting, polishing, edge profiling, and sink cutouts. A proper UK fabricator will template free of charge.

Allow £40–£80/m² for fabrication on quartz and granite, £80–£140/m² for Dekton (harder to work).

Installation (15–25%)

Two-person install, transport, fixing, silicone sealing. Typical UK rates: £200–£500 per kitchen flat fee, OR £30–£80/m² for larger jobs.

Sink and tap cutouts (£100–£250 per cutout)

Undermount sinks cost more (£150–£250 per cutout) than top-mount (£80–£150) because the underside needs polished. Drainage grooves cut into the worktop add £80–£150 if you don’t have a separate drainer.

Edge upgrades (£15–£40/linear metre)

Standard “pencil” edge is included. Upgrades like Bullnose, Ogee, Bevel are £10–£25/linear metre. Mitred 90° edges (where the top and side become one continuous piece) add £80–£140/linear metre — this is what makes premium kitchens look premium.

Upstand and splashback costs

A separate consideration. Kitchen upstand (the 100mm strip behind the worktop) costs £35–£90 per linear metre. Full-height splashback behind the hob runs £180–£320/m² (same per-m² as worktop).

For an average UK kitchen with 4–6 linear metres of upstand, expect £150–£540 added to your worktop quote.

What surprises people on their final invoice

Five hidden costs to budget for upfront:

  1. Old worktop removal: £100–£250 if you need us to dispose of an existing worktop. We don’t recycle granite (heavy + brittle) — adds skip hire cost.
  2. Electrical disconnect/reconnect: Cooker hood, hob, undercounter lights. £100–£200 for a sparky to disconnect before fit, reconnect after.
  3. Plumbing disconnect/reconnect: Sink waste pipe, washing machine connection if integrated. £80–£150.
  4. Carpentry adjustments: If your existing cabinetry needs trimming to fit new worktop overhang. £100–£300.
  5. Sink and tap purchase: Not included in worktop price. Budget £150–£600 for a quality undermount sink + tap combo.

How to save 15–25% without compromising quality

Five ways to bring your bill down legitimately:

  • Choose a non-veined finish. Plain quartz is 20–40% cheaper than veined Calacatta-style for the same brand.
  • Avoid 30mm thickness if you can use 20mm. 20mm quartz saves about 15–20% and is fine for most UK kitchens. See our 20mm quartz guide.
  • Skip the mitred 90° edge. Standard pencil edge saves £80–£140/linear metre.
  • Use top-mount sinks instead of undermount. Saves £70–£100 per cutout.
  • Buy direct from a fabricator, not a kitchen showroom. Kitchen retailers typically add 30–60% margin on worktops. Trade prices are available from fabricators. See our trade rate guide.

When to spend more (worth it)

  • If you’ll be in the house 10+ years. Premium quartz (Caesarstone, Silestone) holds resale narrative value.
  • If your kitchen island is the centrepiece. Bookmatched veined quartz on an island looks remarkable. Splurge here, save elsewhere.
  • If you cook seriously. Dekton is worth the premium for heat tolerance — read our Dekton vs quartz guide.
  • If health matters to you. Zero silica quartz (Caesarstone Mineral, Silestone XM) is 10–20% pricier but eliminates silicosis risk for fabricators. See our zero silica guide.

Regional UK pricing — does it vary?

Yes, but less than people think. Material costs are the same across the UK. Installation labour varies modestly:

  • London + South East: baseline (highest)
  • Midlands, North West, Wales: 5–10% cheaper
  • Scotland, North East, South West: 10–15% cheaper

If you’re in the M25 corridor, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, or Northamptonshire — we cover your area from Watford, Northampton and High Wycombe with London-baseline pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Q: How much does a kitchen worktop cost on average in the UK?
For a typical 6m² UK kitchen with mid-range quartz, £1,500–£2,400 supplied and fitted. Granite is similar. Dekton runs £2,100–£3,500. Premium veined quartz can reach £3,900.

Q: Is granite cheaper than quartz?
Entry-level granite is slightly cheaper than entry-level quartz (£180–£300/m² vs £250–£400/m²). At the premium end they roughly match.

Q: What’s the cheapest stone worktop?
Entry granite varieties like Star Galaxy or Black Pearl — about £180/m² supplied and fitted. Plain quartz colours come in at £250–£280/m².

Q: How much does Dekton cost in the UK?
£350–£700/m² supplied and fitted depending on finish. Average UK kitchen total £2,100–£4,200.

Q: Why is one supplier quoting £1,400 and another quoting £2,800 for the same kitchen?
Either one of them is wrong about scope (missing cutouts, removal, edge upgrades), the materials are different grades, or the £1,400 quote is from someone using cheap imported quartz. Always compare apples to apples — request itemised quotes.

Q: When can I get a quote?
We provide written quotes within 24 hours. Send us your kitchen plan or measurements via our contact form, or visit a showroom.

Q: Do I pay upfront?
Standard practice in the UK is 50% on order (to secure your slab), 50% on completion. We never ask for the full amount upfront.
